DENVER (CBS4) – The trial for a man accused of murdering his estranged wife nearly a decade ago has just gotten under way.
Daniel Donald DeWild is being tried for first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Heather Jean DeWild. Her decomposed body was found buried along U.S. Highway 6 on Sept. 4, 2003. Her body wrapped in trash bags and duct tape.
Daniel DeWild’s identical twin, David Norman DeWild, already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit second-degree murder and will likely be sentenced after his brother’s trial.
The last place Heather DeWild was seen alive was at her husband’s Edgewater home.
“We just keep praying that she does get justice,” Heather DeWild’s sister Rebecca Barger said.
Heather DeWild’s family has been waiting nearly a decade for justice to take its course. She was a week away from finalizing a divorce from Daniel DeWild.
Court documents say Heather DeWild was lured to Daniel DeWild’s home with her two children, then ages three and five, under false pretenses.
Police would end up arresting the DeWild twins and David DeWild’s eventual wife, Mary Rosanne DeWild. David DeWild eventually pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit second-degree murder. Mary DeWild was found guilty of being an accessory to murder. She has already served her time.
Mary DeWild faced a maximum of nine years in prison and was just released from prison last week.
