GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)- A man who was part of the “Bonnie & Clyde” bank robberies in Greeley was sentenced to 22 years in prison on Tuesday.
Joseph Nieto pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery with a real or simulated weapon. He was sentenced to 11 years on each count to be served consecutively.
Nieto, 31, was previously convicted in connection with bank robberies in California and is serving a 70-month federal sentence that will run concurrent to his Weld County sentence.
According to police and court records, Nieto was part of a couple who police and the FBI dubbed the “Bonnie & Clyde” bank robbers.
On Dec. 15, 2010, a couple entered Premier Cash Advance, 3820 10th St. in Greeley, pointed guns at the tellers and demanded cash. The pair then ran away with the money.
Christina Drummond was arrested in California in connection with the Greeley robberies as well as bank robberies in California. Drummond, 26, was convicted there and remains in federal custody.
Upon completion of her federal sentence, Drummond will be extradited to Greeley where she faces 12 felony charges in connection with the Weld County robberies.
Michael Nieto was also arrested in connection with one of the Greeley robberies. He pleaded guilty in July 2010 to one count of robbery.
Nieto, 31, was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections. Police believe he drove the couple to and from one of the Greeley banks that they robbed.
