Father Of Suspect In Deadly C-470 Crash Makes Emotional Apology

LONE TREE, Colo. (CBS4) – A 20-year-old suspect in a deadly hit-and-run in Douglas County bonded out of jail and her father made an emotional apology to the victim’s family.

Erin Finn went before a judge for the first time Friday after being arrested Thursday night. Police say she caused an accident on C-470 near Yosemite early Thursday morning that killed a father of three.

Lone Tree police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. They closed eastbound lanes of C-470 between Yosemite and i-25C-470 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday to search for evidence in the case.

“I know this should have never happened. It’s just a total accident, just a big tragedy,” Erin Finn’s father Dave Finn said.

Finn shed tears for the family of 51-year-old Dennis Dolce and for his own family.

Police say Erin Finn fled and flagged down a driver who took her to a nearby 7-Eleven and then reported the car stolen. Police later matched a black glove outside her apartment to a Halloween costume seen in the 7-Eleven surveillance video.

Dolce’s family says the father of three was headed to work at UPS.

“Disbelief. Once I found out he passed away, just deep sadness. He was a good man,” Dolce’s brother-in-law Jeff Nelson said.

Dave Finn said his daughter is the mother of a 1 1/2-year-old and has been having marital problems. He says there’s one thing he wants Dolce’s family to know.

“Our hearts are heavy on this side, and I can imagine how the other family feels. I’m truly, deeply sorry,” he said.

Dave Finn said his daughter left jail with an ankle monitor to keep her from fleeing. She’ll be back in court next week.
