DENVER (CBS4) – A new exhibit opens Sunday at the Denver Art Museum, and CBS4 Critic at large Greg Moody believes it’s a great way to explore a different culture.
The art of El Anatsui and “When I Last Wrote to You About Africa” the exhibit is a new show running through the end of the year at the museum. It explores one man’s vision of art from ceramics and wood to the caps of liquor bottles.
It’s the first retrospective of El Anatsui’s work, including mixed media, wood — some carved with a chain saw, ceramics, and his famous bottle cap series. There are 61 different works covering his entire career.
It’s the chance to see and explore the vision of one artist and how his style, subjects and art work have changed over 40 years. His is a fascinating way of looking at the world around him — allowing the art to draw people into his particular vision.
“I kept being drawn back to piece after piece,” Moody said.
“El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote to You About Africa” opens Sept. 9 and runs through Dec. 30.
“It’s fascinating art, and a great deal too,” Moody said. “It’s part of your regular museum admission. And remember the first Saturday of every month the Denver Art Museum is free.”
