DENVER (AP) – A Colorado woman who pleaded guilty to starting a wildfire on public land last year has been ordered to pay almost $15,000 in restitution.
A federal judge also sentenced Ami Lyn Thompson, of Loma, this week to five days in jail, with credit for time served, followed by one year of supervised release.
A plea agreement says Thompson was burning weeds on private land when fires she set grew out of control on March 20, 2011. The Ruby Canyon Fire spread in the McInnis Canyons National Conservations Area, which is in western Colorado and eastern Utah.
Thompson was ordered to pay $14,961.98 in restitution to the Bureau of Land Management.
She pleaded guilty to burning vegetation on BLM lands and failing to appear for court hearings.
